
Katie teaches cello at Durham University and Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. She is also the Executive Artistic Director and Founder of the Appalachian Chamber Music Festival Strings Camp program in Loudoun County, Virginia, USA. She teaches serious students of all levels, from beginner to post conservatory-level and has maintained a private class since 2010 of students ages 6-80 in Ireland, the UK and internationally via online platforms.
Katie is Co-Creator of Cello Power: The Popper Project, an interactive online community of cellists with a fun, supportive and accessible educational emphasis (featured in The Strad).
Katie leads workshops, masterclasses, creative seminars, chamber music coaching, orchestral audition preparation, industry and career advice, primarily in English-speaking countries.
She regularly gives and leads talks, workshops, Q&A discussions with other artists/creators, interviews and adjudication for competitions, assessments and exams.

A graduate of the Sato Center in Cleveland, Ohio, she received a second/double Masters Degree in Suzuki Pedagogy with highest distinction which also informs her teaching style. She has a strong foundation and deep understanding of psychological aspects of performing which is widely incorporated in her work with most students, as is her extensive knowledge of both historical and theoretical aspects of Western music. Katie’s teaching draws upon many influences and styles, but she feels especially indebted to her immersion in the school of cello playing of legendary cellist, Janos Starker from her studies at Indiana University.
